On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, the country of Haiti was devastated by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince. The disaster is of unprecedented proportions, and millions of people are in a state of crisis.

The Waterlicious team extends our deepest sorrows, and we encourage everybody to help out by donating to Wyclef Jean's Yéle Haiti charity by clicking here.

by Alex Harner

All entrepreneurs are on the lookout for opportunities to pitch their products. But one executive with Waterlicious, a Marina Del Rey, California-based water manufacturer, recently created his own opportunity when he stormed the stage of a performance from multiplatinum musician-producer superstar Wyclef Jean.
...
"It was not planned," says Patrick Malcolm, better known as "Mr. Waterlicious" since his stunt during Black Enterprise's 2009 Golf & Tennis Challenge in Orlando, Florida.
...
Lucky for him (and the company), the daring move paid off. The 38-year-old wooed the crowd by joining in an impromptu reggae performance with Jean and then the singer "looked at the bottle and started drinking it like it was the first time he was drinking [water] in 10 years," Malcolm says. "And the place went crazy."

And Jean wasn't the only one impressed, says Lincoln Wentworth Lawson, the company's founder. "As soon as Patrick got on the stage, a Pepsi executive (sponsoring the concert) approached me and said, 'One of the Pepsi VPs wants to speak with you about Waterlicious.'" Discussions between the two companies continue...

Here it is! Our big bold breakout:

Lincoln Lawson, a Los Angeles-based business executive and entrepreneur had been working in corporate finance and trading commodities such as gold when he grew tired of the Midas touch lining every pocket but his own. So he decided to turn his attention to another commodity, one that he could control: water.
...
Given his recent experience with Pet-H2O - and further inspired as a new father himself - he decided to try creating a formula for children that he could be sure will provide his son and others with a healthy, nutritious and delicious product that would avoid the ills of existing offerings on the market.

His goals were to avoid high-fructose corn sugars, use all-natural flavours, avoid artificial colouring and include fibre and vitamins. In short, he wanted something he'd be happy offering to his own son.
...
Today, Waterlicious Inc. is a prospering, 100 per cent black-owned company...

This past Labor Day weekend the 2009 Black Enterprise/Pepsi Golf & Tennis Challenge took place in Orlando. During Grammy Award-winning Wyclef's set, Patrick Malcolm, aka Mr. Waterlicious, rushed the stage to promote his company's product. Who is he?

Patrick Malcolm is a businessman. His product Waterlicious has been getting ready to hit the scene for some time now. McDonald's was readying to promote the drink before the recession changed their course towards coffee drinks.

During the time Waterlicious was with McDonald's, though, funding was obtained to create a water beverage that was vitamin infused for kids. Using FDA-approved labs the company's finished product is the first water beverage specially formulated for children that includes fiber.

Malcolm used his entertainment skill to be able to get on stage with Wyclef as Mr. Waterlicious. Malcolm was able to get the mic several times and left the stage only when Wyclef took a sip of the beverage. The perfect endorsement came when Wyclef downed the entire bottle.

That kind of courage to do what could be impossible is the Patrick Malcolm story...

Posh Little review, Jun 17, 2009

"Not only is it totally delicious (my kids are drooling at me right now with the bottle in front of me) the super fun packaging have made for kids written all over it. We had the pineapple flavor which I thought had all the flavor of juice with out being overly sweet and the kids couldn't drink fast enough... Generally I don't post blogs for things that aren't readily available (don't want to tease you).. but maybe this little blog post will help get it onto some retail shelves!! This is one of those items we like to stock up on (something easy, healthy and portable to quickly grab for our outdoor and backyard adventures)."

Mom Fuse review, July 1, 2009

".. the other day I went in to the store and saw what looked to be a one year old little girl drinking soda from the can... After that happened, I wanted to run home and grab our samples of the Waterlicious flavored bottles and rush back to the store to give it to that mom and her child because I knew this flavored water was so much healthier for her.

We had the Soccer Berry flavor. It was really good, you can taste the flavor but it's not overpowering or tart in any way. She enjoyed it quite well finished off the bottle while she was over."

Forever and Always (Blessed Barnharts) review, July 13, 2009

"We received the Soccer Berry flavor and my boys really loved it... Waterlicious also contains the "B" vitamins to help your child be calm while supporting their immune system. The best part is that it is all natural with no high fructose corn syrup and no artificial sweeteners. These are such a great drink for the summer and for any active kid."

For The Love of Baby review, Sept. 1, 2009

"It's amazing how often though when you walk into a store, you see juices and drinks filled with high-fructose corn syrups and sweeteners... Waterlicious has helped create a great alternative to pops and juices.... Not only are these waters enhanced with fibers and essential vitamins, they come in a variety of flavors your child is sure to enjoy. Kelsie has been known to be rather picky and she LOVED her Soccer Berry Water... The next day she asked for 'Water Juice' and when I showed her the Waterlicious bottle, she assured me Yes, that's what she wanted."

From Val's Kitchen (FunCraftsAndRecipes.com) review, Sept. 3, 2009

"I don't think children should have soda. I also don't think they should be having things with chemicals and who knows what in it. They don't need it. I also don't think they need tons of super sweet juices... Folks that want to give their children something to drink that isn't bad for them can consider giving their children Waterlicious. Waterlicious is a line of naturally flavored children's water. It contains fiber which is helpful in fighting childhood obesity, as well as Vitamin C and calcium, essential for healthy growth. It also contains vitamins B3, B5, B6 and B12... What it doesn't contain is preservatives, artificial sweeteners and high fructose corn syrup... Both CJ and I tried Waterlicious in the Soccer Berry flavor. He drank it right down and said 'good' and asked for 'more'... I feel very comfortable with my son drinking this water."

A Shopper's Quest review, Sept. 9, 2009

"Let me tell you...My kids had a treat the other day...We were sent samples of Waterlicious and my kids could not wait to try them. I, on the other hand made them wait...I needed to read the ingredients before I could let them drink Waterlicious. The first thing I noticed was that Waterlicious contains fiber - Wow! Fiber in a water drink? Awesome! Then I noticed it also contained Vitamins B3, B5, B6 and B12 - awesome vitamins for healthy growth and body development. You had me at B3!"

--it is the first children's water product to include fiber.
--contains the essential vitamins for healthy growth and development of strong bodies
--contains all-natural flavors.

Snafood's review, Oct. 13, 2009

"Do your kids drink enough water? Keeping hydrated is one of many important good practices you can teach your kids at an early age... Waterlicious shares in your parental concerns... The Speedy Gourmet's review, Oct. 17, 2009

"I love this idea.  I don't much like my kids drinking soda, and there are only a few alternatives. I am thrilled to know of  a healthy kids drink that is also full of vitamins. This one has it all, and I cannot wait to let my daughter try it... In contrast to the high-fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners found in other children's soda and juice products, Waterlicious contains Crystalline Fructose, a natural fruit sugar that is slow to absorb and does not adversely affect blood sugar levels."

Serendipity Mommy's review, Oct. 22, 2009

"According to my kids, this water is good... I tried it and it's pretty good as far as flavor, its not overly sweet nor is it overly flavored. It reminded me of Capri Sun. But the difference is this particular water has good vitamins and even fiber added to make it healthier. And naturally sweetened too... I would buy this stuff over regular juice. I would drink this instead of plain water and I am an adult!"
